Summer School 2017 For Mississauga High School Students: What, Why, Where, and How?

As we ring in the new year, summer seems very far off especially with the traditional Canadian winter we're experiencing this year! However, for High School Students in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, it's a great idea to start thinking about planning to attend one or more classes over the summer so you can get ahead and give yourself an advantage in College or University Admissions.

What is Summer School?

Summer School is an opportunity to take your required credited classes needed for your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) over the course of 4 to 5 weeks, depending on your schedule and subject.

At Mississauga Secondary Academy, located across the street from Square One Mall, students will have the opportunity to pass a credited course in 4 weeks. Classes are during the day from 9am to 4pm for 5 days a week.

Why take Summer School?

Summer School today is attended for many reasons reasons.

One reason could be that students might have had difficulty with one or more classes during the year, and wish to retake the class to pass it or to achieve a higher grade. Students who are looking to get ahead and achieve their credited classes ahead of time might also opt to enroll in summer school.

Full Attention in a Summer School Environment
One benefit of summer school is that students have the opportunity to focus on a more difficult class and not have to divide their attention between multiple subjects during the week. This is an optimal experience for students who might be struggling during the year and would like to achieve a much higher grade than they would during the regular school year.
Smaller Class Sizes
Summer school classes are generally smaller than during a regular school year, so teachers will be able to spend more one-on-one time with each student, giving them a much more customized educational experience than with the traditional class sizes of 30+ students.
Complete a Core Subject Ahead of Time
If you are a student that struggles with Math, Science, English, or any of the other required courses needed to achieve your Ontario Secondary School Diploma, taking one of these courses over the course of a month in the summer will lighten your course load during the regular school year so you can either take another subject or have a spare period instead!
Prepare for College or University
Get your prerequisite classes out of the way (like English, Math, History) and focus on advanced classes during the year that you'll need for College or University Admissions.
